Refinement & retainers

Invisalign vs traditional braces.
The honest, side-by-side answer to the question most patients ask first.
For the cases we see most often, Invisalign achieves results comparable to braces. The exceptional cases that genuinely need braces are uncommon — and we tell you honestly which category yours falls into.
The questions most often asked.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Most adult cases at Tillinger finish in six to eighteen months, with simpler cases on the shorter end. Your projected timeline is mapped at the consultation, before any aligners are ordered — you’ll know what you’re committing to.
Is Invisalign as effective as traditional braces?
For the cases we see most often — crowding, spacing, mild-to-moderate bite issues, post-braces relapse — Invisalign achieves results equivalent to fixed appliances, with far less visual and lifestyle impact. The exceptional cases that genuinely need braces are uncommon, and we tell you honestly which category yours falls into.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
Most patients adjust within the first few days. A faint lisp on certain words is common at the very start of treatment and resolves quickly as your tongue adapts. By the end of the first week, almost no one notices.
How often do I have to wear the aligners?
Twenty to twenty-two hours a day. They come out for meals, drinks other than water, and brushing. Otherwise they stay in — including overnight. Wear them, and the case finishes on time. The math is unforgiving in this one direction.
How often will I come in during treatment?
Every six to ten weeks for a short progress visit. We confirm the teeth are tracking the plan, hand off the next set of aligners, and answer anything that’s come up. Most of these visits take fifteen minutes.
Can I get Invisalign if I had braces years ago?
Yes — and many of our Invisalign patients are in exactly this situation. Adult relapse, the slow drift that happens to almost every smile in the decades after braces, is one of the most common reasons people come to us. The case is usually shorter than a first-time orthodontic case.
Will I need a retainer when treatment is finished?
Yes. Teeth move throughout life; retainers keep the finished result steady. We make custom retainers at the end of every case and walk you through how to wear and care for them. The retainer is what protects the work.
Do you treat patients from across South Florida?
The practice sits on the Mount Sinai Miami Beach campus and quietly serves patients from across South Beach, North Miami Beach, Sunny Isles, Fisher Island, and the Venetian Islands. Most patients come for the same reason: they want unhurried care, and they want it close to home.
