Hygiene & Maintenance.

An hour, to yourself.

What makes the visit

Three small things, that change the hour.

01 Your hygienist

Someone who knows your teeth.

You see the same hygienist visit after visit — one who remembers the spot you tend to miss, the side that’s sensitive, the conversation you were having last time. The relationship is part of the care.

02 Gentle ultrasonics

Modern, and genuinely comfortable.

A modern ultrasonic does most of the cleaning with a gentle vibration and a soft stream of warm water — quiet, fast, and genuinely comfortable. The final touches are finished by hand for a thorough and complete cleaning.

03 The unhurried hour

An hour, given properly.

A full hour, paced to your mouth and not the schedule. Time for a thorough clean, a careful exam with one of the doctors, and an actual conversation about what we’re seeing — without the rush.

What’s included

The work itself.

  • Routine cleanings

The standard hygiene visit for healthy mouths — ultrasonic and hand instruments, a careful polish, a fluoride rinse if indicated. The pace is unhurried; the conversation is easy.

  • Deep cleanings

Scaling and root planing for patients whose gums need more attention than a routine cleaning provides. Done over one or two longer visits, with proper anaesthesia, so it’s genuinely comfortable.

  • Periodontal maintenance

The ongoing care for patients with a history of gum disease — a slightly more thorough visit, paced to your case, that keeps inflammation quiet and the bone where it should be.

  • At-home guidance

Brush, floss, water flosser, interdental brushes, mouthwash, electric toothbrush heads — honest, specific advice for what your mouth actually needs at home. No gadget recommendations we wouldn’t use ourselves.

  • Fluoride treatments

A quick, painless application of professional-strength fluoride to strengthen enamel and reduce sensitivity. Routine for most patients; particularly worthwhile for anyone with a history of decay.

  • Oral cancer screening

A careful look at the soft tissue of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat at every hygiene visit — not just an annual check. Quick, thorough, and the kind of thing that’s only useful if it’s done routinely.

The philosophy

An hour that actually feels good.

Modern ultrasonics do most of the work with gentle, comfortable vibration — the hand instruments are used softly and only where they’re needed. With the same hygienist visit after visit, the rhythm becomes familiar, the conversation easy, and the hour passes more like care than a chore.

Questions, answered

Questions we are often asked about hygiene.

It’s been a long time since my last visit. Will I be lectured?

No. Many adults have a stretch of years between visits — work, life, things that took priority — and we don’t make it your problem. We start with a careful exam, tell you plainly what we see, and give you a plan that addresses things in the right order. The work that needs doing is the same regardless; how we talk about it is up to us.

How often should I be seen?

It depends on you. Many patients are seen every three or four months; others do well on a longer cadence. We’ll recommend a rhythm based on your gum health, restorative history, and what we’re actually watching — not a default that applies to everyone. Either way, you’ll have an exam with one of the doctors at every hygiene visit, not only once a year.

Do you take insurance?

We’re a fee-for-service practice and not in-network with insurance plans, but we file claims on your behalf and most PPO plans reimburse a meaningful share of your visit. We’ll provide an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost before any treatment, and our team is glad to walk through your specific plan with you.

Will I see the same hygienist every time?

Yes. You’ll have a primary hygienist — typically whoever you saw at your first visit — and you’ll see them visit after visit. They’ll come to know your mouth, the spots that need a closer pass, the side that’s sensitive, the conversation you were having last time. The continuity is the point.

Begin

Begin with a cleaning.

A first hygiene visit is an hour, with one of our hygienists, and a brief exam with a doctor at the end. A real, careful clean — and a clear sense of where things stand.
